Books, Books and more Books.

If you remember I mentioned earlier in the blog I had recently purchased a Kindle E-Book Reader.

I am currently enjoying filling the kindle up with books, unfortunately many of my 'Egypt' favourites such as:-

The Search for Omm Sety

A good book to read if you are planning a visit to Abydos

Omm Sety's Living Egypt

I especially like the story of the "Djinn" in the above book

Treasures of Luxor and Valley of the Kings
(this one is a beautifully illustrated guide book and is IMO the best guide book you can have for a trip to Luxor)

Have not yet been converted into kindle format but I have put a request in through the link in Amazon, fingers crossed the publisher considers them.

One I did request to be put into Kindle Format a few weeks ago was 1000 Miles Up The Nile by Amelia Edwards and I was delighted when I went on to Amazon earlier this morning and found it had been converted to kindle format - YEY!!!!  I bought my current paperback copy in Egypt while sailing down the Nile and as so often happens to books in Egypt - the fierceness and heat of the sun has melted the glue on the spine so now I will be able to sail on the Nile while reading this wonderful book and not have to worry about it falling to bits.

I seem to be un-able to part with any of my books, I have lots of boxes packed full of books in the attic, some in the linen cupboard, a few storage boxes full of books under my bed, some in my built in wardrobe (taking up shoe storage space!!!), then there is my bookcase in the living room. I still have all my old books from when I was a wee girl my favourites being "Pleasant Fieldmouse" and my "Mr Men Cookery Book" (Mr Topsy Turvy's pineapple upside down pudding is especially good )

Mr Topsy Turvy - I also still have all my old Mr Men Books (they are classics!!!)

Pleasant Fieldmouse (wearing his "Tipsy Cola" hat) & Mrs Worry-Wind Hedgehog

I don't have a big house and am slowly running out of storage space so fingers crossed having the kindle will help.

Do any of you watch Downton Abbey on ITV in the UK? It's a fictional period drama following the lives of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, the rest of the Crawley family and their staff during the late Edwardian era.  It's been said to be a bit like a modern day "upstairs downstairs".

The filming is done at Highclere Castle which I am sure you will all know is the seat of the Earls of Carnarvon - the 5th Earl being best known for being the financial backer for the search for the tomb of Tutankhamun - you can read a little more about him by clicking on the following link - 5th Earl of Carnarvon

Highclere Castle Website - the website will give you more information about the castle, visiting times and the Egyptian Exhibition there.  I have never been, it's a bit far from my home here in the Scottish Borders for a day trip, maybe some day though.

The current Countess of Carnarvon has written a book "Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey" which tells the story of Lady Almina Carnarvon, the wife of the 5th Earl, I downloaded it to the kindle last Sunday, I'm just over 1/2 way through and really enjoying it, currently I'm reading about the work Lady Almina did through the First World War turning Highclere into a hospital for the injured soldiers.

I've really enjoyed reading this one

A good deal of the book is centred around the time of the first world war, yesterday (11 / 11 / 11) being Armistice Day and tomorrow Remembrance Sunday I thought the following appropriate to finish the blog post with.
